Community Consolidated School District 21 on Nov. 18 named the nine winners of its annual Season’s Greetings Holiday Card Design Challenge.

Themed “Holidays Around the World,” the challenge gave preschool through eighth grade students the opportunity to creatively express the beauty of global traditions, honoring the many ways people come together during the holiday season.

District officials selected from a pool of 54 submissions based on how the student incorporated global holiday traditions; how they respected all cultures, traditions and holidays; and whether the design was original and created by the student.

In the end, three winners were chosen from preschool through second grade, third through fifth grades, and sixth through eighth grades:

PK-2

  • First Place – Melissa T., a second grade student at Longfellow Elementary School
  • Second Place – Madison B., a kindergartener at Tarkington Elementary School
  • Third Place – Isabella J., a second grade student at Field Elementary School

3-5

  • First Place – Genevieve O., a third grade student at Frost Elementary School
  • Second Place – Greta H., a fourth grade student at Field Elementary School
  • Third Place – Christian S., a fourth grader at Longfellow Elementary School

6-8

  • First Place – Eloise H., a sixth grade student at London Middle School
  • Second Place – Ellie F., a seventh grade student at Holmes Middle School
  • Third Place – Matthew R., a seventh grade student at Cooper Middle School

Each of their designs will be featured as part of the district’s holiday cards. Congratulations to all, and thank you for so many submissions!
